The Headmaster’s Wager, Vincent Lam’s highly anticipated novel, about a Chinese compulsive gambler and headmaster of an English school in Saigon during the Vietnam War, has been released and is gathering positive reviews. It is no surprise to find it on the Bestseller list already. Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures won the 2006 Scotiabank Giller Prize and was broadcast on HBO as a series. Dr. Vincent Lam is from the expatriate Chinese community of Vietnam, and was born in Canada. Dr. Lam did his medical training in Toronto where he works as an emergency physician.
